Private Unemployment Insurance

Unpaid Leave

Private Long-term Disability Insurance

If your company is under Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), you can leave for 12 weeks without being paid for your or your loved ones’ medical situations. You are under FMLA if you have worked for the company with at least 50 employees within 75 miles for at least 12 months with at least 1,250 hours.

You might have bought something called long-term disability insurance, or your company might have given you the chance to get it. Long-term disability insurance pays you some of your income if you get sick or hurt and can’t work. To get the money, you need to file a claim explaining the details of your injury. Certain causes of injury can prevent access to this insurance, such as a crime-related injury.

Long-term Care Insurance

Partnership Program with Long-term Care Insurance

You might have bought long-term care insurance. When you need care and want to use this insurance, you should call the insurance company. They will look at your medical papers from your doctor and might send a medical professional to check on you. Usually, before the insurance company says “yes” to your claim, they need to approve your plan of care.

Spinal Cord Injury Grants and Loans

You might have bought partnership coverage for long-term care insurance. Some states, like Ohio, have made partnerships with long-term care insurance companies. The Ohio Partnership for Long-Term Care Insurance (LTC4Me) helps pay for your long-term care needs while allowing you to get “Medicaid asset protection”. It helps you from having to spend your assets to potentially get Medicaid coverage. According to the State of Ohio, if you bought a “partnership qualified” policy, you will get coverage for long-term care services as explained in your policy. If you use the policy to pay for your long-term care, you will be allowed to keep more of your assets if you ever need to apply for Medicaid long-term care services later on.

Victim’s Assistance Program

To find grants and loans, you will need to do proactive research and talk to different people. Here are a few of resources to get you started:

If your loved one was hurt because of a crime that they didn’t cause, they might be able to get money from the Ohio Attorney General - Victims Compensation. If you live in a different state than Ohio, please check for resources in your state.
