at Home
Your loved one with a spinal cord injury might need special help at home to come back after their injury. Here are the main kinds of help that are really important for people with SCI: Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) or Home Health Aides, Skilled Nursing Services, and Rehabilitation Therapies that happen at home. How these services start and who pays for them depends on your insurance and how much care your loved one needs. Some of these helpers might only be needed for a short time, while others might be needed for a long time.

It's a good idea to talk often with the team helping your loved one in rehab. This way, you can clearly understand what your loved one will need when they go home. Ask your social worker or case manager for ideas about home health care groups. They can also help you understand how to pay for these services, whether your insurance will cover it or you'll need to pay for it yourself.

SCI Discharge Checklist
Going home from the inpatient rehabilitation center is exciting, but it can also feel like a lot. To make sure your return is safe and easy, it helps to be ready for the changes ahead. Get Up Stand Up to Cure Paralysis has a checklist that lists the important things that people with SCI and their caregivers should know and do before leaving the rehabilitation center.
