General Accessibility

Stairlifts, vertical platform lifts, ceiling track lifts, wider hallways, lever handles on doors, smooth and non-slip flooring (avoiding rugs), improved lighting (including motion sensor lighting), accessible light switches and outlets

When planning changes at home, it's good to have a professional assessment by an occupational therapist or a CAPS-certified contractor to make sure the changes meet your specific needs and follow accessibility guidelines.

In addition to making your own home easier to get around in, there are also many ways for friends and family to make their home easier for your loved one to visit. For example, you friends could put up a small ramp, or buy a portable ramp that would make it possible for your loved one to visit their houses!
